Parent/Carer’s are responsible for notifying the school of their child’s absence. This includes providing a reason for the absence. Please report your child's absence by 9.10am on the first day of absence either by phone, email or Weduc.
There are occasions when an absence will be marked as unauthorised. Here are some examples of unauthorised absence:
Continued unauthorised absence may lead to the matter being referred to the school’s Education Welfare Officer and could result in legal action being considered.
Parents/Carers have a duty to ensure that children of compulsory school age receive a suitable education.
This means a child must attend every day that the school is open, except in a small number of allowable circumstances such as being too ill to attend or being given permission for an absence in advance from the school.
Children can attend school with minor ailments. For example, toothache, headache, stomach ache, cold, runny nose, sore throat etc.
If a child has experienced diarrhoea or vomiting the NHS advise that they remain at home for 48 hours from the last episode of diarrhoea or vomiting.
Parents/Carers can access NHS guidance by visiting the below website.
Is my child too ill for school?
Parents/Carers are welcome to contact the school if they are unsure whether their child can attend.
If a child becomes unwell whilst at school, a member of staff may contact home to request that the child is collected.
Where possible all appointments should be booked outside of school hours. Where this is not possible, the amount of school time missed must be kept to a minimum. Your child is welcome to attend school before or after any appointment.
Ellesmere College may not authorise the time off if medical evidence is not provided. Evidence can be shared in person, via email or via WEDUC.
