Ofsted confirmed that safeguarding at Ellesmere College is effective, with a strong culture where pupils feel safe, secure and well cared for. Pupils experience a calm, orderly environment where they are known as individuals and supported to succeed.
Inclusion is a key strength of the school. Staff develop a deep understanding of each pupil’s needs and circumstances, enabling highly personalised support that helps pupils feel valued, confident and ready to learn.
Behaviour was highlighted as a significant strength. Pupils behave very well, showing positive attitudes to learning and high levels of engagement in lessons.
Staff respond with skill and consistency, helping pupils to regulate their emotions and build independence over time. This creates a purposeful learning environment where disruption is minimal and relationships are strong.
Ofsted recognised the school’s post‑16 provision as a particular strength.
Students benefit from personalised pathways tailored to their aspirations, alongside opportunities for work experience and supported internships. As a result, they develop the confidence, independence and employability skills needed for adult life, with many progressing successfully into further education, training or employment.
The school provides a rich programme of personal development, supporting pupils to build communication skills, emotional awareness and positive relationships.
A wide range of enrichment opportunities—including sport, music, outdoor learning and community experiences—helps pupils develop confidence, independence and a strong sense of belonging.
Leaders are highly committed to ensuring the best outcomes for pupils. Ofsted recognised their strong focus on wellbeing, inclusion and long‑term success, alongside a positive and supportive culture for staff.
Close partnerships with families and external professionals further strengthen the support provided to every pupil.
Inspectors found that pupils at Ellesmere College thrive in an environment where they feel safe, respected and understood. They gain confidence, develop independence and are well prepared for the next stage of their lives.
